Zootage began with a simple feeling — missing someone you love.
While living with his dog, founder Alan often had to travel for work, spending time away from the companion who was part of his everyday life. He wanted something small that could travel with him — a familiar reminder of the one waiting at home.
That idea became the first Zootage leather charm: a miniature interpretation of a beloved companion, handcrafted in leather and designed to be carried wherever life takes you.
Founded in Hong Kong in 2024, Zootage has since grown around one simple idea — to create objects that keep the companions we love a little closer to us.
ROOTED IN LEATHER
The story of Zootage is also closely connected to leather craftsmanship.
Alan grew up around his father’s work with leather goods. His father was originally involved in handbag manufacturing before moving into leather restoration, a craft he has continued for nearly three decades.
After studying product design in the UK, Alan continued working alongside his father in leather restoration, developing a hands-on understanding of leather, construction and the details behind a well-made piece.
This experience became part of the foundation of Zootage — combining traditional leather craftsmanship with a more personal way of expressing the connection between people and their animals.
MADE PERSONAL
Each Zootage leather charm is handcrafted in small quantities, with many pieces giving new purpose to surplus leather sourced from leather workshops.
From the choice of leather and strap colour to personalised names, each detail allows the piece to feel distinctly connected to the companion it represents.
Selected charms also incorporate NFC technology, allowing pet information, contact details or social profiles to be accessed with a simple tap of a compatible smartphone — adding a discreet layer of function to the design.
